| A Growth Facilitators initiative to focus and enable schools in Jamaica to achieve excellence!Breakthrough Initiative
Growth Facilitators vision is to improve the quality of life for all people in the Caribbean, and whose mission is to use participative and innovative methods in strategic planning and training to guide change-responsive organisations in transforming themselves. Recognising what is clearly a crisis in the performance of their country’s education system, which is in turn disabling the social and economic infrastructures and hindering growth at various levels of Jamaican society, the partners and associates of the firm, who are committed to being part of solutions, decided they would give back to the system that has afforded them and their families the opportunity to live to their fullest potential. In December 2003, the firm hosted a one-day seminar in Kingston at which Professor Robert Kaplan of Harvard Business School was the presenter. Professor Kaplan is co-architect of (and at the seminar, spoke to) the Balanced Scorecard, a tool which assists organisations in linking performance management and measurement with their vision and strategy. At the end of the seminar, 2 principals, as well as a chairman of a school board who was in attendance, were excited by the possibilities for change that the Balanced Scorecard could bring to their schools, and asked Growth Facilitators to help them develop and implement the tool at their institutions. Thus, in February 2004, Growth Facilitators offered their services to, and began working, pro bono, with all 6 schools (then 7 on account of the board chairman’s school now involved), guiding them in developing their Balanced Scorecards.
The venture was named Breakthrough and has supported strategic planning for following schools:
